Aotearoa New Zealand born photographer, Josie Mossman, lives in the warm Te Matau-a-Māui Hawkes Bay. Her photography began in her early thirties - an ode to the hills of Te Ika-a-Māui the North Island. The stark light and shadow of the landscape convinced her to record what she saw.

Josie now specialises in capturing the intimate and transient moments of parenthood. Her work documents peoples’ connection to each other and their place, capturing fragments of their story. Josie works with patience, warmth and enthusiasm and allows both parents and children room to express themselves naturally and authentically which is reflected in her work.

“We shake with joy, we shake with grief.

what a time they have, these two

housed as they are in the same body” Mary Oliver

‘My drive is to capture the rawness of motherhood and parenting. I want to record every fold, curve and scar on women’s bodies so that their children can look back and say “look at how perfect every inch of her was. Look at how she carried me and fed me and gave for me. And gave for me, and gave for me.”’
